The opportunity
Why Latvia
Latvia offers a temporary residence permit through qualifying company equity (from EUR 50,000). The real-estate route (from EUR 250,000) closed to new applications on 15 September 2026, when the new Immigration Law took effect: applications filed before that date are examined under the previous law, and holders of a real-estate permit may apply, while their permit is valid, for a repeat permit of up to five years on the same basis, if the investment still qualifies and the state payment set by the transitional provisions is made.
Wealthy Expat estimates 1–3 months; it is not an official processing time. Collection of the residence card requires a visit for biometrics. Under the Immigration Law in force since 15 September 2026, a new equity-route permit is issued for up to two years, and PMLP states that the law abolishes annual permit registration in several cases.

Who it suits
May fit. May not.
Latvia suits applicants who want a residence permit. The two lists show where it fits and where another program serves better.
May fit if you want
- Applicants who want the lowest-cost EU residence-by-investment entry point reviewed — EUR 50,000 equity plus a EUR 10,000 state fee.
- Entrepreneurs and remote workers who want EU/Schengen access with no minimum-stay condition to maintain the permit.
- Applicants who can support a qualifying company paying at least EUR 40,000 in annual taxes.
May not fit if you need
- Applicants seeking a residence permit through real estate: the route closed to new applications on 15 September 2026, when the new Immigration Law took effect.
- Applicants who want permanent residence quickly: permanent residence is a separate process, and PMLP states that it requires at least five years of residence in Latvia with a temporary residence permit.
- Applicants unable to document the company's required annual tax payment (equity route).
